Wudu
Learning Wudu
Wudu is ritual purification — a short cleansing performed before prayer. 9 steps. Each one simple. Go at your own pace.
What is Wudu?
Wudu (Arabic: وُضُوء) is the Islamic procedure for washing parts of the body before prayer. It is mentioned in the Quran (5:6) and is one of the conditions for a valid Salah.
Spiritually, Wudu is not just physical cleansing — it is a moment of preparation and intention. Each step is an act of remembrance of Allah.

النِّيَّة
Intention (Niyyah)
Begin with the intention in your heart that you are performing Wudu to purify yourself for the sake of Allah. You do not need to say it out loud.
Helpful Tip
Niyyah is internal. A sincere intention is enough.
What invalidates Wudu?
After performing Wudu, it remains valid until something breaks it. These are the main things that invalidate your Wudu:
- 1Using the bathroom (urination, defecation)
- 2Passing gas
- 3Losing consciousness (sleep, fainting)
- 4Vomiting
- 5Bleeding (in some scholarly opinions — Hanafi school considers it a nullifier)
- 6Touching private parts directly (in some opinions)
What if water isn't available?
If water is not available or using it would cause harm (illness, extreme cold), you may perform Tayammum (dry purification using clean earth or dust). This is a valid substitute recognised in the Quran (4:43).
